Express Entry Programs

Express entry is not an immigration program. It is a point-based system that manages the applications submitted from three programs: Federal Skilled Workers, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades program. You can use your skilled work experience in Canada or outside Canada to qualify to these programs.

IRCC invites the best candidates every 2 weeks, through the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and a portion of the Provincial Nominee Program.

In May 2023, IRCC announced new category-based round of invitations that focus on candidates who have:

• a strong French language proficiency, or

• work experience in the following fields:

  • healthcare

  • science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions

  • trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors

  • transport

  • agriculture and agri-food

 

Who is eligible for these category-based rounds?

 

Candidates must meet the minimum criteria for Express Entry, including being eligible for 1 of the 3 immigration programs it covers and meet all the requirements in the instructions for that specific round.

 

• For the French language proficiency category, candidates must obtain CLB 7 in all languages abilities to qualify, among other requirements.

• For the rest of work experience categories, candidates must have at least 6 months of continuous and full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience within the last 3 years in one of the occupations listed by IRCC. This experience may be gained in Canada or abroad.
