Your education journey

with the right strategy

STUDY IN CANADA

Canada has one of the best education systems in the world and provides a truly multicultural experience for those seeking to study abroad — whether your goal is to immigrate or simply gain world-class international experience.

Benefits of studying in Canada

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

After graduating, you may be eligible for a PGWP — one of the most reliable ways to gain Canadian work experience and pursue permanent residency. Dual intent is accepted under Canadian immigration law, as long as you comply with the conditions of your temporary status throughout the process.

Work while you study

One of the most important benefits of a valid study permit is the right to work — and this may extend to your common-law partner or spouse. Full-time students in approved programs can work up to 24 hours per week during the school year and full-time during scheduled breaks.

IMPORTANT:

Not all Designated Learning Institutions make you eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). You need to meet certain requirements to be able to apply for a PGWP after graduating.

What you need to know about study permits before you apply

Do you need a study permit?

Important application factors

Even if you plan to study temporarily and return home afterwards, you will most likely need a Study Permit. Anyone planning to study in Canada for more than 180 days must hold a valid study permit— with a few exceptions. There are also different types of study permits depending on the kind of program you are taking.

  • Country of origin of the applicant

  • Country of residency prior to arrival in Canada

  • Type and length of program

  • Ties to your country of origin

  • Financial means

  • Intended institution (must be a DLI)

⚠️ Each application is assessed individually. These factors apply broadly — among others — and outcomes vary by case.
